Let’s start with the Basics…..

Background

The American sport we know as football originated in 1892 steaming from soccer and rugby. Walter Camp, also referred to as ‘the father of football,’ is recognized as the person who made the most significant rule changes to get the game we have today—introducing the hiking spot and a bunch of other studies that don’t make sense to me yet.

The NFL was initially established in 1920 but it was called the American Professional Football Association. However, the name was officially changed to the National Football League two years later ( which is good news because APFA doesn’t have the same ring!).

Football has grown over the past 100 years and has become the most popular sport in the United States!

Scoring

A current football field is 120 yards by 53.33 yards in between each team’s end zones. It is also known as the place where we score ( or, if it is CU, the place where only Travis Hunter goes).

A touchdown is scored when you run into the other team’s end zone with the possession of the ball; simple, right? Well, not exactly. A touchdown is 6 points!

You can also score points after the touchdown with a kick ( 1 point ) or by playing from the 2-yard line ( 2 points )

There is also a way to score 3 points with a field goal, which requires the kicker to kick the ball through the goalpost / the thing at the end of the field that looks kinda like a fork.
Lastly, your team’s safety can score 2 points by tackling their opponent with the possession of the ball into your own end zone.

CU vs Baylor

Colorado Buffaloes beat Baylor 38-31 in overtime!! What an exciting game!! I hope everyone was either watching from the stands or warmly from their houses!

Since we are all learning more about the game, I feel like I have to mention the insane play by Travis Hunter in the last two seconds of the game. Hunter is a very rare player who is often seen playing in both defense and offense. This is almost unheard of in a sport as grueling and tactical as football. However, Hunter makes it look easy, and today, he forced a fumble on the goal line in the last play of the game, allowing us to win the game!! A fumble is when a player loses possession of the ball before being tackled. In other words, they literally drop the ball.

Shedeur Sanders also had a great game this Saturday. Forcing the game into overtime, finishing with 341 yards and completing more than half of his passes. This has been one of his best performances and it was very fun to watch!

I hope to see some more wins from the Buffs this season! Even though we have a tough lineup of games coming up! As always, SKO BUFFS!!
